BioValueAI develops and validates AI-driven tools, digital twins, and data-enabled solutions to optimise circular and climate-neutral bio-based value chains across Europe.

Through five real-world industrial use cases, the project supports more sustainable feedstocks, improved resource efficiency, reduced waste valorisation, and responsible AI adoption in the European bioeconomy. BioValueAI brings together research organisations, industry actors, technology providers, and policy experts to accelerate the uptake of trustworthy and interoperable AI solutions for the bio-based sector.

Cacao Valorisation
Using AI, BioValueAI will support the valorisation of cacao fruit side streams, including pulp and husk, into high-value non-food products such as bioplastics, artificial leather, biochar, and natural dyes.
Bio-based Coatings
BioValueAI will use AI and digital twins to support the design of more sustainable paints, varnishes, and chemical construction products, helping companies integrate bio-based raw materials into new formulations.
Precision Fermentation
AI-driven monitoring and process optimisation will be applied to precision fermentation systems to improve yield, product quality, circularity, and scale-up from laboratory to industrial environments.
Hemp Chain Intelligence
BioValueAI will apply AI to optimise the hemp processing chain, from harvesting and fibre extraction to quality control, supporting sustainable natural fibre applications, especially for construction.
Biorefinery Feedstock Optimisation
AI-driven analytics will help identify and valorise organic by-products from agri-food and beverage industries, supporting new bio-based value chains for specialty chemicals, food, and cosmetics.
